Deceased Animals

Aurora Animal Care and Control will remove deceased animals from roadways and other public property within the city of Aurora. It is the responsibility of the property owner to remove, or cause the removal of, any animal which has died on their property no later than forty-eight (48) hours after the animal has died.

Stray Animals

Aurora Animal Care and Control will take in any stray companion animal found in the city of Aurora. Stray animals can be brought to the shelter any time during our open business hours. If you are unable to bring the animal to the shelter, give us a call at 630-256-3630 and an officer will be dispatched to your location. If an animal is found after hours, please contact the Aurora Police Department. APD will meet you at the shelter to impound the animal.

Stray Cats

Cats wandering outside are usually not far from their homes and are unlikely to be lost. Research shows that cats are over 13 times more likely to be reunited with their owners if left in place rather than taken to a shelter. A cat that looks healthy with good body condition and coat is very rarely lost. We might not know where the cat lives, but good body condition tells us the cat likely knows where home is. A cat that is not injured, ill, or in imminent danger is unlikely to need assistance.

Aurora Animal Care and Control will accept stray cats that are brought to our shelter. If you need assistance catching a stray cat, please reach out to one of the following organizations:

Wildlife

Aurora Animal Care and Control will assist with sick and injured wildlife on the public way. See more information on wildlife services.
