Volunteering at Aurora Animal Care & Control

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Aurora Animal Care & Control (AACC)! We are excited to hear from you. This new and improved program will be launched February 20th, 2025.

Aurora Animal Care & Control (AACC) welcomes volunteers who support our mission and desire to make a contribution to the welfare of animals in our community. Volunteers at AACC assist with the socialization and enrichment of animals in our care.

AACC offers volunteer opportunities Monday-Saturday from 10am-4pm. We are closed to volunteers all government holidays and Sundays.

Volunteer opportunities in the shelter may depend on operational needs and current active volunteers. Open opportunities may change frequently. Please review the requirements and open positions below.

What’s New?

Our program has changed! The AACC volunteer program now includes tiered volunteer opportunities with improved training protocols, promoting safe and fulfilling interactions for everyone involved. Policies and procedures have changed slightly from the previous program. Returning applicants are required to review all materials thoroughly to ensure our program is the right fit for them.

What to Expect

AACC has received a large influx of applicants since the launch of the new and improved volunteer program. All applicants to the AACC volunteer program are reviewed thoroughly by the Volunteer Coordinator and shelter management staff. Applicants may experience longer waiting times during the beginning stages of the program. The order of accepted applicants will depend on operational needs and general availability of the applicants. Small groups of applicants will be accepted at a time to ensure proper training and onboarding are completed. Applicants can expect to receive email communication about the status of their application periodically. We appreciate your patience during this time.
